Verona, Castel San Pietro
14.10.2023 - 12.11.2023
opening: 13.10.2023, ore 21.00

In a world increasingly questioning the effects of globalization, the environmental crisis, and, more generally, humanity’s impact on the planet, what possible or impossible scenarios await us?

Careof is a partner of the project “TOMORROWS – Notes on the future of the Earth,” curated by Jessica Bianchera and Marta Ferretti, which showcases, from October 14 to November 12, 2023, at Castel San Pietro in Verona, the reflections of six contemporary artists on the present and future of the Earth: Sophia Al Maria, Mo Kong, the collective SITESIZE, Jonas Staal, Natália Trejbalová, and Driant Zeneli.

The exhibition, focusing on video and moving images, is part of the “Art&TheCity” program of ArtVerona 2023 and is included in a broad project intended to accompany visitors up to the 2024 edition of the historic contemporary art fair in Verona.

In addition to the exhibition at Castel San Pietro, the project includes a multidisciplinary public program featuring talks, roundtables, workshops, screenings, and school projects, involving scientists, anthropologists, sociologists, and artists from various disciplines.

The exhibition path, inaugurated on Friday, October 13 at 9:00 pm, inhabits the spaces of Castel San Pietro, recently reopened to the public amid restoration work and archaeological excavations — a highly evocative place both internally and for the breathtaking view overlooking all of Verona, as well as for its historical and cultural significance to the city. On display are six video works belonging to collections and international archives by six artists from Europe, America, and Asia. The common denominator of the works is the transdisciplinary reflection between art, ecology, and sustainability, addressing themes such as the interconnection between living beings, biodiversity, sociocultural dynamics, humanity’s interaction with the environment, and the concept of eco-anxiety. The result is works ranging from documentary to science fiction and fiction, from uchronia to utopia, spanning vast historical times and geological eras, reflecting on imaginative possibilities, doubts, and alternatives to the current extractive dynamics on which the no longer sustainable human-Earth relationship is based.

“TOMORROWS – Notes on the future of the Earth” is a project by Fondazione Cariverona, UniCredit, ArtVerona, Contemporanea - Università di Verona with Urbs Picta, in collaboration with Accademia di Belle Arti statale di Verona, AGIVERONA, Careof, Finemateria, LOOP Barcelona, MA*GA Museo Arte Gallarate; media partner exibart.
