In painting, an essential moment lies in the choice of materials to be used. The decision regarding the size of the canvas, the type of fabric and its preparation, the brushes, and the kind of colors all represent a stage already imbued with meaning.
All of this disappears when one draws on a monitor. The dimensions of the image are predetermined and cannot be altered. The “definition” that can be visualized on the screen replaces the dimensions of the canvas—in other words, the “amount” of pixels that can be activated.
But the greatest difference between painting on canvas and creating images on a monitor lies in the distinct relationship between the hand, the eye, and the marks made.
