From 2.11 to 14.11.2008
The exhibition I sette arcobaleni — whose title takes its name from a Chinese wholesale store — presents the work of artists and curators beyond a specific thematic thread. Moving freely inside and outside the spaces that normally contain art, it develops a path that starts from Careof and opens up to the surrounding neighborhood, considered the Milanese Chinatown. I sette arcobaleni involves several locations and their audiences, such as the historic dance hall New Dancing Apollo, the 19th-century Casello di Porta Volta headquarters of the Circolo ex combattenti, the Piccola Scuola di Circo, and Bticino.
The journey begins at Careof: Alessandro Mancassola and Barbara Ceriani Basilico present the video Roye Lee, a portrait of a singer who returned to the stage after 25 years; Back up (abstract from mixed folders) by Luca Bolognesi is a brief excerpt from an archive of business portraits taken from the web and subsequently archived in analog format for possible groupings; Giovanni Giaretta and Daniela Zangrando present Bang!, the publication resulting from an encounter with a researcher from the Department of Physics at the University of Milan. Marco Colombaioni engages in dialogue with the New Dancing Apollo on Via Procaccini with work inspired by African art. The artist also presents his work at the Piccola Scuola di Circo and Teatro Verga. Along the path from Fabbrica del Vapore to the other locations, Michele Gabriele presents a series of anthropomorphic sculptures installed at the edges of the adjacent construction site; Elena Nerina Reverberi offers three small hand-stitched tapestries displayed in some Chinese shops on the street leading to Via Sarpi, and a sequined sphere at the Associazione Combattenti e Reduci. The only work visible to a limited audience — the company employees — is by Matteo Rubbi, installed in the austere white Carrara marble towers of Bticino.
On Monday, November 3 at 5 PM, during a public event, the exhibition will be introduced. On this occasion, Emiliana Sabiu and Simon Njami will present the Associazione Cherimus, which has brought to Sulcis Iglesiente artists Alberto Garutti, Lucy + Jorge Orta, Alfredo Jaar, critics and curators Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Cristiana Collu, Mario Cristiani, James Putnam, Simon Njami, and criminologist Silvio Ciappi. Matteo Rubbi and Marco Colombaioni themselves are members of the association.
