Public Art a Trieste e dintorni documents a complex operation carried out in the Giulian capital between 2007 and 2008, curated by Maria Campitelli in collaboration with the Triestine Gruppo 78 I.C.A.

The publication responds to the intention of informing about a mobile and elusive subject, open and in progress, not so much with the aim of defining it in an absolute way, but rather to grasp its founding essence in its becoming. It is art that grows outside its designated spaces, beyond the white cube of the gallery and the commercial system exalted by art fairs. It is art that meets people in public spaces—where the term “public” takes on various meanings—that identifies itself with everyday life and the challenges of daily existence. It is art that places the relationship between self and other at its foundation and participates, from interdisciplinary perspectives, in the sustainable improvement of the habitat and quality of life.

The project Public Art a Trieste e dintorni carried out this exploration through various means, beyond the text: “Manifesti d’artista,” an open art showcase on the street; an international documentary exhibition spread across three locations; site-specific events of relational art in the urban and suburban territory; workshops and an international conference.
