From 13.04.2011 to 07.05.2011

Project created in the framework of Vista 11

Careof, on the occasion of the 50th Salone Internazionale del Mobile, within the framework of Posti di Vista 11: Design sensibile, in partnership with the magazine Ottagono and the Comune di Milano - presents IF LIBRARY/IF BOOK, a project curated by Emanuele De Donno and Giorgio Maffei.

IF LIBRARY/IF BOOK is an open platform on contemporary artist books, conceived by the young French designer Maël Veisse (Metz, 1985) in collaboration with viaindustriae, consisting of eleven micro-installations, designed as as many “workstations,” which host and make accessible editorial projects by 11 artists: Banu Cennetoglu, Daniela Comani, Celine Condorelli, Documentation Celine Duval, Melissa Dubbin & Aaron S. Davidson, Daniel Eatock, Dora Garcia, invernomuto, Markus Miessen, Helene Sommer, The Infinite Library (Epaminonda & Cramer).

To cite a few examples, Banu Cennetoglu proposes a catalog of digital photographs (a project presented at the last Biennale di Venezia), Documentation Celine Duval one of her editorial operations in series, invernomuto an intermedial and collaborative process, through a living and multichannel catalog, Markus Miessen and Celine Condorelli bring out stimuli related to design and the project.

The work of Maël Veisse, at the boundary between design and artistic practice, dialogues with the environment as a relational space where aspects of recovery, regeneration, and the economy of the artifact make the process sensitive and balanced.

The exhibition is enriched by a series of events that will take place between April 13 and May 7. The final publication/catalog INbookOUTbookIFbook (a thematic project of LIBEROLIBROdARTISTALIBERO5 in collaboration with STUDIO A’87 and funded by the Comuni di Foligno e Spoleto) and the artist book Lonely by Luca Pucci, produced and conceived by viaindustriae and a+m bookstore following the editorial workshop BOOKmachine, curated by Amedeo Martegani, will be presented. There will also be Waiting Room, a workshop for young artists with experts in artist book publishing, led by the art director of Mousse Magazine Francesco Valtolina and the artist Amedeo Martegan, who will work starting from materials in the Careof archive.

Bio

Maël Veisse (Metz, 1985), graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Nancy, works on themes related to design and the public dimension of the city. His research focuses on the analysis of spaces translated into design modules and geometric repetitions. Among Maël Veisse’s preferred structures are housing platforms, which in their combinatory reveal open forms and typologies. The works he produces are often accompanied by limited-edition artist books, which complete and at the same time make the original project more complex – as in the case of 4096 (2009) and 277/6081 (2010), the first created within STUDIO A’87 Chiesa San Carlo di Spoleto, the second arising from viaindustriae’s residency in Foligno. On this occasion, he created the project HABITAT/1, production of design modules for the domestic landscape, where he self-built his own studio and home. The objects were conceived as self-determination of the domestic habitat, an open and economical modular design. The series produced for the viaindustriae catalog was sold at an accessible and democratic price, within the dimension of an art capable of reusing and regenerating materials and spaces.
