Careof presents Mini Strutture Sparse, a project by Riccardo Baruzzi, open to guests from various artistic fields, which takes shape from a previous reflection (Studio Visit) on drawing and music, disciplines that share a common ground in manual execution.
In Milan, as guest of the FDV Residency Program, Baruzzi develops the project in collaboration with musician Enrico Malatesta. From their interaction emerges an occupation of the domestic spaces of the residencies through a setup composed of potentially sonic materials, divided into objects that can be manipulated or activated. These include elements found on site, pre-recorded external material, video projections, objects poised between sculpture and audio mechanisms, manipulated according to their physical/sonic texture, a portable record player, various constructed items, and fragile works that enter into use and become instruments.
As Enrico Malatesta specifies: “The device is polydynamic. It is capable of operating on different sound points created by the clustering of various components; the performing actions (carried out with beaters of varying nature and from variable distances between performer and object) continuously alter the sound proportions of the provided materials, rejecting an instrumental attitude in favor of a material-spatial one. The ‘scattered’ set makes it possible to consider the quality of each material as a structure in itself, revealing its complex array of (micro)details and its sonic autonomy. At the same time, however, each working object is a section of the cluster, exploded into a given spatial delimitation.”

Enrico Malatesta (Cesena, 1985) is a percussionist active in contemporary music.
He studied classical percussion at the Conservatorio Bruno Maderna in Cesena. His research activity focuses on redefining the role of the percussionist in various contemporary fields, studying the acoustic dimension and the material quality of percussion instruments.
He works in duo with percussionists Christian Wolfarth and Seijiro Murayama and is a founding member of the percussion ensemble Glück.
He has toured throughout Europe, Japan, and South Korea and has released material on the labels Presto Records!?, SECONDSLEEP, and Senufo Editions.
