Roberto Pinto • Book launch - Nuove geografie artistiche. Le mostre al tempo della globalizzazione
29.10.2012
Careof presents the volume Nuove geografie artistiche. Le mostre al tempo della globalizzazione (2012) by Roberto Pinto, published by Postmedia books. On this occasion, the author is joined by anthropologist Ivan Bargna and art historian and critic Francesco Tedeschi.
Nuove geografie artistiche. Le mostre al tempo della globalizzazione retraces some of the main stages in the evolution of 20th-century contemporary art, aiming to analyze how the international exhibition landscape has changed. Until a few years ago, in fact, an international exhibition typically featured works from Western Europe and the United States, whereas today major exhibitions and the most important museums have opened their spaces to artistic productions from cultures and geographical areas previously not considered sufficiently interesting. The book seeks to reflect on how this transformation is intertwined with historical, political, and economic events, and on the elements that have shaped this shift in perspective in the production, analysis, and commercialization of recent art.
The volume is accompanied by a series of in-depth entries dedicated to exhibitions that have emphasized how the encounter between cultures—and the resulting emergence of a new concept of identity—is at the core of much of the most significant artistic production in recent years.
