Un mese con "E IL TOPO"
E IL TOPO, in collaboration with Careof and SUPPORTICO LOPEZ, Berlin, is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Re-Birth, the twelfth issue of the magazine. The public presentation is scheduled for March 27th at the end of Un mese con E IL TOPO: a program of events conceived by the editorial team, active from February 29th to March 27th within the exhibition space of Careof.
The artist editorial project E IL TOPO (Edizioni Nuovi Strumenti, Brescia) — born from an idea by Gabriele di Matteo, Piero Gatto, Franco Silvestro, and Vedovamazzei — in only four years (from 1992 to 1996) and 11 issues, prophetically recorded through contributions by Stefano Arienti, Art Club 2000, Massimo Bartolini, Vanessa Beecroft, Maurizio Cattelan, Mark Dion, Dominique Gonzales Foerster, and Grazia Toderi among others, the spirit and attitude of a generation that marked its time and the contemporary international art scene. Printed offset in black and white in about 1000 copies on recycled paper, each issue of E IL TOPO has hosted unpublished projects, proposed according to an unusual editorial strategy mainly based on the power inherent in the discontinuity of meaning, as well as on play, irony, and détournement.
But why talk about E IL TOPO today? What or who has awakened the Topo from its slumber?
It was the reappropriation of the magazine in 2010 — unbeknownst to the original editorial team — by the artist Francesco Fossati (1985) that triggered an intergenerational dialogue and fueled new intentions around a renewed working group, whose results are today represented by the ‘rebirth’ of the magazine itself. Sixteen years after the last issue, the new first number is the result of an open call issued by the editorial team aimed at collecting unpublished photographic material related to personalities from the art world who passed away during the period when E IL TOPO had disappeared.
A significant selection of the gathered material will be incorporated into the project, becoming fully part of Re-Birth, the twelfth issue of the magazine. This project, which deals with the themes of Re-birth and Death, intends in its own way to pay tribute to all those who dedicated their lives to art and who disappeared leaving the ‘battlefield’ between 1996 and 2012.
The new editorial team of E IL TOPO, in dialogue with Gabriele Di Matteo, Piero Gatto, Franco Silvestro, is today composed of Mattia Barbieri, Francesco Fossati, Giovanna Francesconi, Gabriela Galati, Francesco Locatelli, Monica Mazzone, and Luca Pozzi. Director: Armando della Vittoria.
The editorial team of E IL TOPO will be present from Tuesday to Saturday, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Careof exhibition space, available to anyone interested in learning about the editorial project.

Y Liver, Nota. Ho scritto: Pensare alla performance con i dinosauri E IL TOPO
performance Thursday, March 8, 2012, 7:00 PM
Y Liver (David Liver and Rugiada Cadoni) is a performing duo originally from Milan, now living in Paris. Their work revolves around themes of storytelling, identity construction, and the relationship between the individual and history.
On the occasion of Un mese con E IL TOPO, they present a performance in which, dialoguing with the “dinosaurs,” they compose a repertoire of actions carried out over recent years. The manipulation and perversion of language, as well as constant references to Jewish culture, are the aesthetic material from which the duo advances poetic questions.
