Ja Lubie Polske #1 • Identi_TY Animated Film Festival
From 21.05 to 25.05.2013
Careof continues its investigation into Italian and international audiovisual production through a process articulated in exhibitions, research projects, residency and study programs. With Identi_TY Animated Film Festival, the series of actions focused on languages, poetics, and protagonists of video concentrates on Polish production.
Identi_TY Animated Film Festival is an original showcase of 50 animated short films organized over five days. Each day approaches the theme by exploring different topics: from gender identity, to the observation of the city as a place for the formation of social identity, to the exploration of states such as loneliness and alienation, investigating family environments and everyday life contexts, as well as the interstices and the imperceptible hidden within the folds of reality.
In conceiving the project, Iwona Kaminska and Kinga Lewandowska drew inspiration from the film Maski (Le Maschere) by Piotr Karwas, for its particular use of languages – from traditional techniques borrowed from the world of puppetry to digital animation – for introspective research and the focus on the theme of identity in contemporary society. Presented in Milan during the festival, Maski, Golden Bear for Best Animated Film at the 49th Berlin International Film Festival, explores the complex system of mechanisms that drive individuals to hide behind a mask.
Among the other works featured at the festival: Switez, directed by Kamil Polak, awarded at the 2011 Internazionale Animated Film Festival in Annecy and at the 51st Krakow Film Festival; I cori, directed by Viola Owls, a dreamlike and poetic tale of three generations of women that takes the form of a musical fable, featuring jazz pianist Leszek Mozdzer; Danny Boy directed by Marek Skrobecki, made using puppetry techniques; Sleepincord by Marta Pajek, invites the viewer on a surprising and unsettling journey through real and dreamed worlds; Droznik by Piotr Szczepanowicz offers an intimate image of a man and the small world around him; the musical-documentary film Miasto Plynie by Balbina Bruszewska tells what can be perceived from the windows of a house…; Krzyzowka dnia, music video by the famous Polish singer Monika Brodka, created by Krzysztof Skonieczny; the clip by Przemyslaw Adamski and Katarzyna Kijek for the song Pirate’s Life sung by the Irish group We Cut Corners.
The festival includes in-depth workshops with classes from Milan’s Art Academies.
Identi_TY Animated Film Festival represents the second stage of Ja Lubie Polske, a project exploring the Polish art scene that the Milan-based organization develops in 2013 through project presentations, video screenings, and residencies for artists and curators.
