Created by Marie Douel and Amandine David, the project Hors Pistes aims to bring together artisans and designers from around the world through collective design workshops. These workshops are moments of research and experimentation between the fields of design and craftsmanship, carried out with the goal of creating innovative prototypes. For the 2013 edition, Hors Pistes moved to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, where from September 1 to October 15 French and Swiss designers and Burkinabe artisans created objects born from the blend of their skills and knowledge.
These objects represent new identities formed by the hybridization of visions and imaginaries.
On the occasion of Salone del Mobile – Posti di Vista 2014, Hors Pistes, in collaboration with Careof, brings to Milan for the first time the result of the experience in Ouagadougou, in an exhibition presenting some of the objects created during the workshop.
A name, or rather a manifesto, that says it all: hors pistes.
A manifesto that talks of freedom, adventure and breaking the mould.
A manifesto which, applied to the design world, is translated into the overlapping and contamination between the different styles, in the overturning of shared aesthetics and the reinvention of craft production methods. The project, set up by two young French designers, is a demonstration of their design insight and a philosophy of thought based on the network of skills and free circulation of ideas.
Amandine David and Marie Douel have created a project able to bring together European design concepts and the crafts of Burkina Faso, combining different worlds in a global enrichment. If we immediately think of the revolutionary Sedia 1 by Enzo Mari which in 1974 was pure provocation, experience teaches us today that the links between craft and design are destined to strengthen in the years to come. Design because we have now entered a post-industrial era of design production and craft because today tradition can only be saved thanks to contemporary reworking.
Different together and new together, design and craft have today overcome the mere concept of self-production to map out together the course and the off-piste of a new artisanal industrial production.

Hors Pistes mira a riunire artigiani e designer da tutto il mondo attraverso laboratori di progettazione collettiva.
Ogni due anni, i workshop organizzati conducono i giovani designer alla scoperta di manufatti stranieri e, allo stesso tempo, supportano gli artigiani nella promozione del loro know-how.
In occasione del Salone del Mobile 2014, Careof ha portato per la prima volta a Milano le produzioni nate dalla collaborazione di Marie Douel e Amandine David con una comunità di donne della città di Ouagadougou, capitale del Burkina Faso
