Lions after Slumber

Lions after Slumber is a series of meetings accompanied by a selection of videos partly drawn from the Archivio video di Careof and partly selected by the authors and artists involved. The talks alternate between some of the most interesting figures in the English cultural scene on one side — Federico Campagna and Owen Hatherley — and the perspective of an artist duo based in Paris on the other — Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson — invited to present In Search of UIQ, a film based on the never-realized sci-fi script by Felix Guattari.

Lions after Slumber was created to deepen a multi-voiced reflection on the themes of Work, the City, and Media Culture, closely connected to the dynamics of a reality like Milan, rapidly transforming in anticipation of EXPO 2015. The goal is to present to the Italian public the theoretical and artistic work of a generation of activists coming primarily from the blogging world of the early 2000s, operating at the intersection of cultural critique and aesthetic analysis.

Over the last ten years, a new generation of thinkers and activists, mostly from the early 2000s blogging scene, has emerged. Gradually, these examples have become part of the international debate, intertwining the academic and non-academic worlds, also supported by publishers such as Verso Books (versobooks.com) and Zero Books (zero-books.net).

The project is structured around three meetings, held over the course of a month on a biweekly basis. In the days between each talk, the Careof space will be transformed into a mini cinema, set up with a film program agreed upon with each guest and related to the themes developed for each talk, in order to create a supportive narrative and visual fabric for the conversations.
