Sinfonie Urbane

From video to installation, from performance to sound intervention, an exhibition dedicated to the city of Milan and its transformations takes over all the spaces of Careof at Fabbrica del Vapore for four days.

Careof presents Sinfonie Urbane, ten new audiovisual productions created during 2014 thanks to the collaboration between the artists and musicians involved in the project, conceived and curated by Exposed Project. Ten new perspectives investigate the relationship between architecture and public space, between urban sounds and mass movements, between social spaces and personal stories, reflecting the extraordinary and everyday changes occurring in the metropolitan area. The EXPO2015 event serves as a pretext for a broader reflection on the role and impact of major public works within the urban fabric, in the imagination, and in the perception of citizens.

The exhibition, curated by Fatima Bianchi and Giuseppe Fanizza (Exposed Project) in collaboration with Matteo Balduzzi and Marta Ferretti (Careof) and with a graphic design by Nicola Nunziata, concludes Diamanti as a space for in-depth exploration dedicated to the most recent video productions about the city of Milan. Alongside the exhibition, a series of events and public meetings present and deepen the artists' poetics, inviting the public to discussion and dialogue through a round table and an urban walk, to explore on-site the EXPO neighborhoods.

Sinfonie Urbane is preceded by a selection of works presented on December 7, 2014, within Filmmaker Festival.

The project Sinfonie Urbane, curated by Exposed Project and inspired by the urban visions of modernity emerging from the cinematic avant-gardes of the 1920s and ’30s, began in January 2014 through an open call aimed at identifying ten pairs or groups of artists and musicians, followed by a training path with film critic Rinaldo Censi, videomaker Cedrick Eymenier, and sound artist Davide Tidoni.

Throughout the project, the spaces of FDV Residency served as a place for meeting, discussion, and review of the works, under the curation of Exposed Project and in collaboration with Careof, Filmmaker, and O’.

Sinfonie Urbane is a visual and sound research project about the city of Milan.
The project originated from an open call aimed at selecting ten visual artists and ten musicians invited to reinterpret the city of Milan.

After an initial phase of workshops and field research, the selected artists produced ten new audiovisual works which were presented at Careof.

The project is part of EXPOSED, a research laboratory on urban transformations in preparation for EXPO 2015, hosted at FDV Residency.
Careof thus hosted the laboratory born from the Sinfonie Urbane call, aimed at a training period for up to 10 pairs of visual artists and musicians invited to produce an Urban Symphony.
