Careof presents SIG NUM by Martina Corà, on show in Milan from 27 April to 27 May 2022.

SIG NUM is an investigation representing the space in which it is held, a mapping which takes on different forms, although it always originates from a photograph.
SIG NUM is a recording of signs, people, animals, sounds. SIG NUM is the memory of its container, the recollection of walls, floors, and ceilings.

“These signs become a kind of universal alphabet, which refers to the cave as a canvas filled with graffiti, to the celestial sphere/vault as a haven for human imagination, a language that anyone can understand, an experience that is not individual but collective,” says Martina Corà.

The first SIG NUM was a study of the artist’s house exhibited in 2017 at Nowhere Gallery, Milan. The investigation was then presented in three other places: the Macao community center (Milan), the house where Turkish writer Orhan Kemal was born (Istanbul), and the Fiori Artificiali exhibition space (Milan).
Each time, SIG NUM takes on a different form: the photographic matrix is transformed, reworked, translated into prints on various materials; it becomes a sculpture or an audiovisual installation thanks to the software DORR, created on purpose by the artist and the programmer Andrea Reni.
