Cinema Godard by Fondazione Prada presents Studio Invernomuto: on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 4:00 PM, a program of short films retraces the work of the two artists, exploring the fundamental themes of their research suspended between myth, history, popular culture, and music.
In B.O.B. – trailers (chapters 1–3) (2010), three trailers announce the opening of a solo exhibition, ideally blending the provinces of Emilia and America; in Boomeria (2011), the castle of science teacher Preston Q. Boomer becomes the protagonist of an experimental documentary that invites viewers to take part in a labyrinthine role-playing game; in Negus – Lee “Scratch” Perry (2014), the legendary figure of dub music Lee “Scratch” Perry evokes the spirit of the last emperor of Ethiopia during a shamanic purification ritual; MALÙ – Lo stereotipo della Venere Nera in Italia (2015) explores Italy’s colonial racist legacy through representations of the Black body, drawing on the cinematic phenomenon of Mondo Movies; Calendoola: UTU (2016) marks Invernomuto’s foray into fiction, recounting the conflicts between the inhabitants of Ruatoria, New Zealand, and Maori Rastas between 1985 and 1990; Grito – Las Brisas de Febrero (2021), co-directed with artist Jim C. Nedd, explores music as a form of knowledge and resistance through the tradition of Colombian picó sound systems and the history of Palenque; Mangrovia (2024), co-directed with electronic music producer Low Jack, follows dancehall queen Rayna as she performs an extreme dance move (“head top”) among the mangroves of Martinique.
The program concludes at 6:15 PM with the screening of Paraflu, Invernomuto’s latest film co-directed with artist Michela de Mattei, which tells the story of the return of the wolf to the landscape of Northern Italy, exploring the figure of this predator as a symbol of both conflict and wonder. Shot on 16mm film and developed from the writings of naturalist philosopher Baptiste Morizot, the film weaves together real footage and AI-generated effects to construct a narrative suspended between documentary and abstract representation, inviting the audience to confront their own imagination.
The program will be followed by a conversation with Michela de Mattei and Invernomuto, moderated by Marta Bianchi and Marta Cereda, directors of Careof.
Free admission upon registration. Tickets will be available on DICE starting Wednesday, April 2 at 11:00 AM.
