Adel Al tai, fotografo a Baghdad

Mr. Adel Al Tai will be available for an in-depth discussion on the cultural and social reality of the country, with a screening of his own works as well as those of other Iraqi photographers.

In recent years, several Italian photographers have traveled to Iraq to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s reality, during and after the Gulf War. Through photography, they have collected testimonies of the difficult human condition and the cultural and professional isolation experienced by Iraqi artists. From these encounters, various cultural projects have emerged in support of training young authors and creating support exchanges with Iraqi photographers.

Among the main initiatives is the reconstruction of the BIBLIOTECA DI FOTOGRAFIA in Baghdad. Active since February 2001, the library was launched by the association "Un Ponte per..." and made possible thanks to the participation of dozens and dozens of Italian photographers who donated one of their works to raise the necessary funds. The library contains an initial collection of over 500 volumes, gathered with the support of various publishing houses, foundations, museums, and galleries. It is managed partly by the city's Gallery of Modern Art and partly by the Association of Iraqi Photographers, and is coordinated by Adel Al Tai, who also initiated a recent series of workshop exchanges between Italian and Iraqi photographers.
