Museo Teo turns 10 years old

Works and instllations by Giovanni Bai, Carolina Gozzini, Teo Telloli

24.09.2000 - 30.09.2000

On September 24, 1990, with the exhibition Sansistosei, Museo Teo began its activities—a museum with no venue and no collection, a non-profit association dedicated to promoting contemporary art outside traditional spaces and channels. After ten years of activity, Museo Teo’s repertoire includes approximately seventy-five exhibitions it has organized, in addition to nearly as many participations in initiatives promoted by other entities, as well as sixteen issues of its magazine, Museo Teo Art Fanzine.

Founded as an artistic initiative by Giovanni Bai and Maurizio Telloli—who acted simultaneously as artists, curators of the exhibitions, directors, editors, and publishers of their magazine—Museo Teo's work was based on the involvement of both other artists and the public. Its activity has always relied on the interaction of a growing number of individuals: artists, critics, poets, and art enthusiasts in general—those whom Museo Teo affectionately refers to as “art fans,” and to whom the fanzine is directly addressed. Over time, the number of people directly involved in managing the project has also expanded.

Although based in Milan, Museo Teo has progressively expanded the reach of its activities: to cities across Italy such as Rome, Turin, Genoa, Verona, Venice, Pisa, and Florence—just to name the major ones—while also establishing stable connections with Italian-speaking Switzerland (Chiasso, Lugano, Locarno) and the French Riviera (Antibes and Nice). It has also participated in broader international initiatives, from London to Paris, Cologne to Copenhagen.

All events organized by Museo Teo have always been marked by a sense of dynamism and joy, and in some cases have taken on the nature of real celebrations—such as on October 29, 1991, at Care Of in Cusano Milanino, for the launch of the first issue of Museo Teo Art Fanzine. On Sunday, September 24, 2000, Museo Teo returns to Care Of for a popular festival with dancing and picnicking alongside the featured installations. Special musical guests include Alberto Restelli and Vincenzo Caglioti.

Also available will be Museo Teo Artfanzine #17: The Millennium Bag, and the CD-ROM Antologia 1.0.
