Videopassages
Careof participates in numero zero of inContemporanea, la rete dell’arte, a project by the Provincia di Milano aimed at giving visibility to the rich contemporary art scene in Milan and promoting its knowledge among all citizens.
Videopassages is a project curated by Mario Gorni and Simona Bordone, created with the goal of ‘invading’ the commercial spaces and shop windows of via Torino in Milan. Videopassages transforms the chosen area into a sort of open-air cinema for passersby: from March 29 to April 8, it offers a video art program, bringing to the streets materials normally accessible in museums and art galleries. The shop windows of commercial establishments host works produced by emerging and established artists, selected by curators Chiara Agnello, Simona Bordone, Emanuela de Cecco, Mario Gorni, Francesca Pasini, Roberto Pinto, Alessandra Pioselli, Michele Robecchi, Gianni Romano, Maria Rosa Sossai. The works, concerning themes of civil living, the city, and multiculturalism, focus on eleven viewing points, creating a new path that touches one of Milan’s most beautiful areas, from Piazza Duomo to Carrobbio.
The proposal of Videopassages is that of a gaze and a way of experiencing “the vertigo of the streets,” as Walter Benjamin said in the Passages, suited to a modern flâneur. The “seeing through” a commodity that presents itself only as an image of itself, which is not for sale even if it coexists with what is for sale: a powerful paradigm of our society. These are images, those of the videos in the windows, that present themselves to the eye as fragments, brief short circuits that open to the mind as possible openings to consciousness. “I have nothing to say, only to show.”
