Diamanti
From 13.11 to 17.12.2014
curated by
Chiara Agnello and Martina Angelotti
Diamanti is an exhibition born in dialogue with Glitch. Interferenze tra arte e cinema in Italia (PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea, Milan, October 11, 2014 – January 6, 2015) and presents itself as an appendix and framework to revisit the filmography and production of the Italian artists selected for Glitch and featured, with different works, in the Careof Video Archive.
The exhibition is composed of three viewing rooms. Each Camera di Diamanti is conceived as a single unit divided by themes and different types of pathways.
Cinematografico (Camera 1) gathers the most recent productions of Italian artists from the last two decades; it functions as a space where visitors can conduct their own personal research using the available list of titles and view the selected works projected in large format on the front wall.
The other two rooms, Macchina Incantata (Camera 2) and Abbandonare l’ingombrante (Camera 3), set up as tent-like spaces, each consist of two monitors and an LCD screen that serves as a demonstrative track of a process enacted by some pioneers of cinematic experimentation, whose important materials are preserved in the archive: Alberto Grifi on one side and Paolo Gioli on the other. These two authors allow us to introduce two different themes around which the selection of other important examples in the archive will revolve.
The exhibition is part of a precise path undertaken by Careof, which for about a year has been addressing the theme of the archive in its most representative aspects of staging, format, content, and language, increasing new methods of preservation and fruition.
Assuming in its multifaceted and reflective form all the symbolism of an equally precious and varied material, Diamanti tells the experience of the Archivio Video through the works of the artists who created it and continue to nourish it. Renewing it day by day and creating ever more lively and unpredictable connections and relationships between past and present, in a crossover of investigations and formats.
At the conclusion of Diamanti, from December 18 to 21, Careof continues the investigation around the Archivio Video and presents Sinfonie Urbane, a space for in-depth exploration dedicated to the most recent video productions about the city of Milan. The project, curated by Exposed and loosely inspired by the urban visions of modernity, involved ten pairs of artists and musicians throughout 2014, giving rise to new perspectives on the transformations of the metropolitan area in view of EXPO2015.
