Apparatus 22 - On fake, shields, surroundings and too many questions
5.02.2016, h 19.00
The collective Apparatus 22, artists and winners of the residency DiogeneBivaccourbanoR 2015, present a selection of works in conversation with some members of the Diogene group from Turin. The evening introduces the artistic practice of the collective from different perspectives: the themes of interest for research and production, the processes of articulating ideas, the various contexts in which the artists have lived and worked, the questioning as a strategy for critical thinking, etc.
Apparatus 22 is a multidisciplinary artistic collective founded in January 2011 in Bucharest, Romania, by the current members Erika Olea, Maria Farcas, Dragos Olea, and by Ioana Nemes (1979, Bucharest - 2011, New York). Apparatus 22 investigates the complex relationships between fashion and economy, politics, gender studies, social movements, and religion in order to understand contemporary society. Their artistic practice, which spans various languages – installation, performance, writing... –, shapes works in which reality blends with fiction and narration and is supported by a critical approach drawing knowledge and experience from the worlds of design, sociology, literature, and economics.

DIOGENE
Progetto Diogene is an artist collective founded in 2007 with the objective to reflect upon artistic systems and the roles of artists within contemporary arts practice. Its name taken and inspired from Diogenes of Sinope, the collective looks at defining a critical approach to making, whilst maintaining a balance between autonomy of thought within the larger ecosystem of everyday realities. Operating out of a tram as the main site for the coming together of research and practice, the main projects of the group are Bivaccourbano, an international residency for artists; DiogeneLab, a pedagogical laboratory with local schools in Turin; Collecting people, a series of debates and conferences and Solid Void, a school for artists. These projects develop and execute new strategies for innovation and alternative methodologies based on the sharing of experiences
