opening: 31.03.2025, h 19.00
On the occasion of Milano Art Week, Careof presents “Mirrorball”, an exhibition curated by Marta Cereda that explores the theme of the party as a moment of suspension from utility, and the nightclub as an attempt to make its energy productive.
Closely connected to “among friends”, the theme of the 2025 edition of miart, the project draws from the heritage of Careof’s Archivio Video, which holds over 9,000 titles and is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture as of national historical interest. It features works created between the 1990s and the early 2000s by Francesco Bertocco, Monica Carocci, Maria Adele Del Vecchio, Giulio Delvè, Emilio Fantin, Marcello Maloberti, Jacopo Miliani, Benedetta Panisson, Nadia Perrotta, Natalia Saurin, Nico Vascellari, and Luca Vitone.
These works highlight the characteristics of the party as an informal, often unexpected gathering without a specific goal, removed from profit-driven logic. A moment of unexpected detachment, spontaneity, and lightness, often marked by dancing, lights, and laughter. To throw a party, you don’t need a set — you need a spirit.
The counterpoint to this vision is represented by the works of Irene de Andrés Vega and Tony Regazzoni, whose work is presented in Italy for the first time. The research of these two artists reveals the failure of the structures through which the capitalist system attempted to regulate, channel, and monetize the party: the nightclub.
“Donde nada ocurre” is a series of short films by Irene de Andrés Vega, in which the artist explores her native island, Ibiza, focusing on the architecture of now-abandoned nightclubs. Tony Regazzoni, on the other hand, in the medium-length film “On achève bien les discos”, undertakes and documents a journey through the ruins of nightclubs in Northern Italy. Ultimo Impero, Egyptia, Divina: structures with grandiose names, now reduced to rubble and memories — of those who danced, sweated, and loved there.
The exhibition design, conceived by Chiara Lionello, creates a dialogue between these visions and transforms Careof into an otherworldly space where visitors can be carried away by the rhythm of the images.
At the end of the exhibition, and until April 30, 2025, the works will be available for consultation in Careof’s Archivio Video, with free access by appointment: careof@careof.org.
