ArteVisione 2022

ArteVisione Focus 2022 pushes the boundaries of the project and narrows the field simultaneously.

Considering the period we are living due to the pandemic, with AV focus Careof tries to redefine the role, the possibilities, and the symbolic value, not just the economic one, of our job. We are professionals who investigate the pivotal idiosyncrasies of the contemporary man through the moving image and using the exchange, opening and horizontal-dialogue method.

We privilege in-person procedure, allowing bodies and individualities to merge into collective magma. We discuss the development, production, and exposition mode of the moving image but also of the training possibilities.

The finalists of ArteVisione 2022 are: Sofia Braga, Teresa Cos, Jacopo Rinaldi, Rebecca Moccia, IOCOSE.

REBECCA MOCCIA - “MINISTRIES OF LONELINESS”

Synopsis

Developed across various international cultural contexts such as the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, and Italy, Rebecca Moccia’s work “Ministries of Loneliness” is a research project investigating loneliness and its politicization in neoliberal society, starting from the experience of isolation and the dissolution of everyday life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The practical and symbolic starting point of the entire project is the Ministry of Loneliness, a department established in the UK in 2018 to address social and health issues related to loneliness, later replicated in Canada and Japan in 2021.

The ArteVisione 2022 jury, composed of Yuri Ancarani, artist; Iolanda Ratti, curator at Museo del '900 di Milano; and Eva Sangiorgi, Artistic Director of Viennale, awarded Rebecca Moccia’s project ‘Ministries of Loneliness’ for “its ability to tackle a universal theme that questions the structure of our society and its values. At the core of the project is loneliness, examined across different geographies, placing them in dialogue to highlight how this issue is common and shared. The artist intends to use a documentary approach, layering different narrative levels not only through editing or mise en scène but also through the direct commentary of graphic notes that bring critical reflection to the forefront. The jury emphasizes the coherence of the filmic research with the artist’s previous work, both formally and conceptually.”
